Simple Sloppy Joes

Sloppy Joes. Sounds VERY appetizing, I know. But they are so damn good. I feel like Sloppy Joes are just something I’ve only eaten as a kid and now 20 years later the thought of Sloppy Joes out of a can sounds..just gross.

So what’s a girl to do? Make her own, homemade healthier version! This recipe tastes like the REAL DEAL ✔️ it will not disappoint I promise. Of course, you can use ground beef! This is just a *healthier* alternative, and still tastes just as great (meaning BEEFY)!

You’d think it’s like a super secret recipe, cus hardly anyone makes Sloppy Joes anymore, right?! But this is SUPER SIMPLE=most ingredients already in the pantry🙌🏼 (double high-five)! I’ve even got some cool twists in my recipe which are all optional, like an onion bun, cheddar cheese, and hot sauce, so here goes:

First, you’ll round up all your ingredients Then chop your veggies

The cooking process starts with browning your meat in some vegetable oil and butter, then set aside. Then add a little more oils and sautéed your veggies a few minutes, until softened. Then add all seasonings. Combine and deglaze with a 1/2 cup of beef stock. Add beef back in and cover and simmer on low for 5-10 minutes until thickened.

One of my twists is a onion bun 🙃 toast it or not 🤷🏽‍♀️

INGREDIENTS:

  • Ground turkey
  • White onion
  • Jalapeños
  • Green bell pepper
  • Beef/chicken stock
  • Tomato paste
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • Ketchup
  • Salt/pepper
  • Chili powder
  • Onion powder
  • Garlic powder
  • Dry mustard
  • Hot sauce
  • Brown sugar

***See above for directions***

And there ya have it…homemade sloppy joes! I know making this totally made me feel like an aficionado, because seriously who makes homemade sloppy joes anymore!!! ive had mine with extra hot sauce, a thin layer of cheddar cheese and on all sorts of different buns, but you have it the way you like it!

It’s definitely Sloppy so make sure to have paper towels or napkins and I served mine with something called MEGA FRIES 🍟🧀🌶( crinkle fries with melted cheddar cheese, and pickled jalapeños… YUM 😋)

Hope y’all enjoy
