Showering when my family is home
A poem

Walking by a mirror I realize

It’s time for a shower!

I call out to my kids, “I’m going in the shower, does anyone need anything?”
No, is echoed through the house
I walk into my sanctuary

my bathroom

and turn the water to hot
Mom! He’s bothering me! Mom!
Can I have my tablet?
I then turn the water off
Sort them out
I call out to my kids, “I’m going in the shower, does anyone need anything?”
The NOs echo again
I quietly close and lock the bathroom door
Water turns hot much quicker this time
Before my foot steps in I hear the call-
MOM? MOM she won’t leave my room! Mom!
I’m hungry!
I step into the shower and drown out the sound
I lather up with shampoo and they call again
MOM! Can you wipe me?
Quickly wrap the towel around my soapy body and run!
Don’t slip!
Can I finish my shower now?
I step back in, no longer a sanctuary but a work place
Need to hurry!

wash my hair as fast as possible
I hear it again
MOM! The little one found the sharpies!
And with that, I’m clean enough.
